Nimbin is located on the edge of the beautiful Nightcap National Park and over-looked by the dramatic Nimbin Rocks. Although Nimbin was originally settled by timber cutters and farmers in the 1840’s its modern day reputation stems from the Aquarius Festival! In 1973 the Australian Students Union held the festival in celebration of the alternative lifestyle for hippies and wannabe drop outs Australia wide. Most of the festival goers returned to their regular lives after the festival , but a small number remained and cultivated the community to become the unofficial capital for the alternative lifestyle and the environmental movement. Peace, love and freedom…..
